For many a delicious cheesy potato is a comfort food, but the boxed ones don’t do the trick and it seems so hard to make a good scalloped potatoes that doesn’t separate or turn to a Greeley or crunchy mess. Here is a simple delicious scalloped potato recipe that anyone can make a good impression with!

Scalloped Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds Yukon gold potatoes peeled, and sliced paper thin
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 3 Tbs unsalted butter softened
  • Coarse salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 5 ounces swiss cheese grated

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees with a rack set in the lower third of oven.
  2. Combine sliced potatoes, garlic, and milk in a large saucepan over high heat. Bring to a boil, and immediately reduce heat to low; cover and simmer until potatoes are just tender, 3-5 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile butter a 3+ quart baking dish.
  4. Using a slotted spoon move the potatoes from the milk to the baking dish evenly.
  5. Add the butter, heavy cream, and salt and pepper to the milk remaining in the sauce pan.
  6. Pour the milk mixture over the potatoes and place in the oven.
  7. Cook for 30 minutes uncovered until the milk mixture has reduced and began to thicken. Sprinkle with grated cheese and place back in the oven for another 15-20 minutes until the cheese is golden brown
  8. Serve warm and enjoy!
